Times They Are A Changing...South Glendale

Well, I guess if the Yelp/hipster approved Tres Hermanas taqueria off Central Ave didnt already signify that there was a change brewing in South Glendale (which started approximately two years ago) then maybe this will put the official stamp on things. There is a new LA fitness where the old Bally’s fitness use to be located at 623 S. Central Ave in Glendale.

What use to be a side thought of Glendale, the area south of Colorado Blvd and adjacent to the neighborhoods of Atwater Village and Los Feliz is starting to come into its own. With no help from Caruso Affiliated's Americana and/or the city of Glendale's planning dept which all but cardoned off Colorado Blvd with its unincorporating building design from the pre-existing South Glendale community and businesses, nevermind the area is doing fine all by itself.

Finally, South Glendale is beginning to show signs of identifying itself more with the eclectic residents of Atwater Village and the new demographics moving into the more affordable rental apartments in South Glendale than of those who would prefer to spend their entire day shopping at the Galleria or Americana.

Not only is the Selley building off San Fernando Rd renovated and soon to be leasing artist lofts and creative work spaces but at the corner of Central and Los Feliz is a huge residential development on the former site of a carwash and burger king by an out of state res developer. LA Fitness could have chosen to go north on Brand Blvd closer to the 24 hour fitness and the Bally’s in that part of town next to Porto’s and the other shops that cater to law firms and professional service companies that populate the downtown office area of Glendale but for whatever demographic reason they chose to open in South Glendale, maybe times they are a changing in South Glendale.
